Running Really Fast

Unplanned

I hadn't planned on planting a vegetable garden this year, but was going to give that little piece of ground (and myself) a rest.  When stuff that didn't look like weeds started coming up, I decided to just watch it and see what happened.

Summer squash in the foreground and climbing on the fence, pokeweed in the back.

Any recipe suggestions?

Cat in a Box

Here's Neighbor Cat trying out a new shoebox.  She spent a couple hours in the box yesterday evening.  The box is from my new pair of sandals, which I bought to replace the ones that Siri destroyed.  Siri has already tried to sample the new ones.

Guard Dog, Part 2

This morning, Siri did her best to frighten off a scary baby deer.  The deer and its mother were in the woods behind my house.

Siri barked and barked, but all she accomplished was to wake up the neighbor's dogs.  Once they started in, the two deer turned and walked down the hill and out of sight.

Guard Dog

This evening I was relaxing downstairs, reading and dozing in my chair, and both dogs were upstairs.  The house was very, very quiet.  I got up to get some coffee and suddenly heard a dog growling upstairs, and Brea came charging down the stairs.  She stopped suddenly when she saw me, stared for a moment, and then turned and went back upstairs.

I guess she forgot that I was even in the house.  This was the first time I've seen or heard her act like a watchdog.  Usually, when someone comes to the front door, both she and Siri might come downstairs, but then they just stand or sit and stare at the door without making a sound.

We're not in a high crime area, but I still like having a dog that's going to announce its presence when someone comes to the door.
